Roping Clinic
June 8, 2006

The Iowa Lipizzan Association, Inc. and
Abraham's Equine Clinic hosted a roping clinic on June 8, 2006 at the Midwest Stallion Station in Marion, Iowa.

Special thanks goes to our two clinicians:  Clint Sandburg and
Joey O.  Clint helped the group learn how to throw a rope and explained how the various types of ropes are used.  Joey O entertained the crowd with some trick roping and other acrobatic tricks.

We had a great turnout from the Linn County 4-H club and everyone had a good time.

First Aid Basics for Horses
June 20, 2006

The Iowa Lipizzan Association, Inc. and
Abraham's Equine Clinic hosted a clinic on First Aid Basics for Horses on June 20, 2006 at the Midwest Stallion Station in Marion, Iowa.

Dr. Charles Abraham, DVM explained the importance of knowing your horse's vital signs and how they are an indicator of how much pain your horse may be in.  This is extremely important to know when communicating with your vet.

Rachel Wehrheim stepped-in for Dr. Abraham while he attended to an emergency colic.  She demonstrated how to take a horse's vital signs and what to include in a first aid kit.

The clinic was very well attended by members of the horse community and we all learned a great deal.  We are all thankful to Dr. Abraham for his time and knowledge.
Oneness Clinic
August 9, 2006

The Iowa Lipizzan Association, Inc.,
Shellhaven Farm, and Abraham's Equine Clinic hosted a Oneness Clinic on August 9, 2006 at Shellhaven Farm in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Participants learned various techniques and methods to become more aware of their mind, body, and spirit connection.

Vicky Johnson, practitioner of the Alexander method, emphasized the importance of breathing in relaxation.  Breathing properly slows a person's mind, eases muscle tension, and enables one to become more centered.

Vicky, with the help of her daughter Michelle as a demo rider, showed the importance of relaxation and being centered while riding.  Michelle displayed some of the common riding faults (chair seat, leaning forward, etc.) and the audience could see how upset her horse was with it.  When Michelle relaxed and became centered her horse moved freely forward in a relaxed and energetic frame.

Building on Vicky's centering techniques, Gene Wehrheim worked with the audience on creating a greater awareness of energy.  Aikido, a martial arts discipline, literally means "the way energy flows."  Participants were able to try and experience for themselves how the control of energy helps one become stronger than if they used their minds alone.  By being centered one is able to be better balanced and focused so he can become "one" with the horse.

Participants left the clinic excited and more aware of the importance of mind, body, and spirit harmony.  It was an unforgettable evening.
